Welcome to the only Reading Challenge with a Real-Life Adventure Included!
Pondering your New Year’s resolutions? One thing I know for sure, if you love The Novel Tourist, then you love to read! That means you are probably looking for a new reading challenge. It’s here! But, I bet the “Gawd, I need a vacation” side of you is also on the look out for inspiration to meet your goal of enjoying life to the fullest or checking off your bucket list. For those of you looking to make this your best read and most interesting year, then this Read & Go challenge is for you! The purpose of the first ever Novel Tourist reading challenge is to read fantastic fiction that inspires you to live your best year ever. We aren’t talking self-help books or grandiose vacations. No way! We’re talking about bringing fiction to life in your own backyard! To do that you’ll need to read books sure to shake things up a bit! We can help!
24 Categories = A Year’s Worth of Reading Challenge Fun
The 2018 Read & Go Reading Challenge gives you 23 stimulating categories (and one bonus category) from which to choose your next reading adventure matchup. The list invites new genres, new authors, and new worlds, both real and imaginary, into your fictional and actual life. You can aim to read two new books a month, or you could count one book for multiple categories. Don’t worry, this isn’t a competitive challenge – it’s all about you and what works for you. Think of the challenge as a way to explore both reading selections and activities that you otherwise might not. Books allow us to see the world from a new perspective. Sometimes a new perspective helps us find the time to put more fun in our own lives by going on that dream vacation, taking up a new hobby or exploring the hidden gems in your own town. Oh! You don’t need to limit your reading to only novels. I just suggest novels because, well, I am The Novel Tourist. 😉 It’s good to read everything! So, feel free to include memoirs and non-fiction, juvenile fiction, coffee-table favorites, comic strips and more!
Get Off the Couch and Go Explore!
Unlike your ordinary reading challenge, this is a two-part affair. That’s right, we’re throwing down the gauntlet and challenging you to not only read more this year, but also put down the books and go do more fun stuff! What could be more exciting than letting the adventures and activities of our literary friends inspire our own! As you read, highlight or jot down the activities or locations that seem interesting to try and then grab a friend or strike out on your own, and go explore! Not sure what we mean? Check out this post featuring Sing, Unburied Sing or this visit to a graveyard for ideas on pairing a book with a nearby activity. Planning a vacation? Great, search for a novel set in the vacation location and you’ve got a match-up! If you get stuck for ideas, that’s okay, we’re right here with ya on this reading challenge and will be posting plenty of literary-inspired activities and places to visit to make it easy to succeed.
